Eric Schmidt, chairman of Google’s parent company, Alphabet, will be leaving the company in January to focus on other projects, the group said on Thursday.

Schmidt, who was one of Google’s top executives in the early 2000s, will still remain “technical advisor on science and technology” for Alphabet, adds the group, which intends to appoint a new president, non-executive, in January.
